FREE ONLINE EVENT – Cryptic Crosswords for Beginners – Thursday, Oct 7, 2021, 11:30 am

This six week course will teach you how to solve cryptic crosswords. It starts with the simplest ideas and easiest types of clue and gradually builds to the more advanced aspects of clue solving. At the end of the course, you will understand how cryptic clues work, be able to solve clues at an intermediate level of difficulty, and know how to develop your skills further. This is a stimulating course that can lead you to an enjoyable new pastime.

Free Online Event – Elizabeth and Mary: Royal Cousins, Rival Queens with the British Library – 29 September

ONLINE EVENT – Wednesday, 29 September 2021 10:30 – 12:00


In October 2021 the British Library opens the first major exhibition to consider Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots together. Using original documents and objects, it takes a fresh look at the story of the two iconic sovereign queens, revealing how from amicable beginnings and sisterly affection, their relationship turned into one of suspicion, distrust and betrayal.

Exploring South West Wales – Saturday 23 April to Saturday 30 April 2022

Our holiday for 2022 will be 8 days exploring the history and heritage of this area of the UK.


Our trip to the Christmas lights at Kew in 2018 proved extremely popular and so we have organised a visit to Leonardslee Gardens, at Lower Beeding, near Horsham for their Illuminations and Christmas Market. The Illuminations should prove to be spectacular and atmospheric, with a 60-90 minute stroll through the beautiful grounds of Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens as they come to life with

Crossness Pumping Station and Buffet Lunch, Thursday 21 October 2021

We will travel to the Crossness Pumping Station at Abbey Wood where tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits will beavailable on arrival. Followed by an illustrated talk giving the historical context and build up to the Great Stink of 1858, a look at the sewer system model showing Bazalgette’s engineering solution to London’s public health crisis, a guided tour of the Crossness site and the engines (Prince Consort the restored engine is unlikely to be operating because of a technical problem) and then we will be free to explore the Great Stink exhibition and view a wonderful collection of toilets!
