History, Geography & Geology
We are a group with a wide variety of eclectic China related interests. Topics ranging from the Chinese Language to the country’s forestry industry. New members are welcome. We normally meet on the 3rd Monday of the month at 2.00pm in Hildenborough.
Our interest is church architecture and history. We investigate clues that help us understand how the church and surroundings evolved. Group 1: Visits are on the 4th Thursday of the month Group 2: Visits are on the 2nd Monday of the month.
On each week of the month we look at different aspects of Genealogy: Finding Source Records, Building Family Trees, Using ancestry.com and Analysing DNA matches. Every Thursday afternoon in North Tonbridge. 2.00pm - 3.30pm; Session topic. After Tea, 4.00pm Records - 1st Thursday afternoon monthly Trees- 2nd Thursday afternoon monthly Ancestry.com - 3rd Thursday afternoon monthly DNA- 4th Thursday afternoon monthly
For those with a genuine interest in History, members participate in questions, comments & discussion. October to May monthly on the 2nd Wednesday 10.30am in Bidborough.
We each take turns in doing research and presenting a topic or leading a walk. We learn about our locality and discuss local memories.
This is an open group and any Tonbridge U3A member is welcome at meetings. We watch and discuss programmes about some aspect of world affairs, past, present or future.
Industrial Heritage - Current Situation We have been using Zoom to continue our programme of talks and have topics and speakers well into 2021 and are keeping an eye on developing government guidance. For people interested in our industrial past and what can still be seen of it in the world around us. Meetings are either talks, or visits to places of industrial history interest. Talks are held in Tonbridge on the 4th Wednesday at 10.35am.
