Arts and Crafts
Venues will vary dependent on the subject. We meet on the 3rd Friday of the month. We welcome members' suggestions and ideas to help develop the itineraries, for example a particular interest or an exhibition we could visit and discuss.
This is a support group for solitary painters to which every member contributes. Our objectives are to: encourage painting; offer supportive comments on the work; make suggestions for possible improvement. We have monthly meetings on Monday mornings 10.00am-12.00 noon in members' homes.
Our aim is a shared enjoyment of art in all its forms. There are 3 Groups. Group 2 - Meetings are held in Plaxtol every 3 weeks on Mondays (2.00pm to 4.00pm). Group 3 - Meetings take place in various members’ houses every third Friday in the month. Group 3 - Current Situation We have been “meeting” once a month using Zoom. The normal arrangement of our meetings is for one person to give a presentation on a topic of their choice, followed by a discussion. We decided that arrangement would be more difficult to sustain using Zoom, so we adopted an alternative arrangement, with each person sharing and talking about a work of art for about 10 minutes. With eight of us taking part regularly in the Zoom meeting, that fits well into our normal 2 hour time slot, also allowing time for some more general chat which is appreciated. We can share the work of art either by holding up an object in front of the camera on a pc/tablet or by using the option within Zoom to share someone’s screen so that we can all see the same image. As our experience with Zoom continues, our meetings run a little more smoothly each time. As well as enjoying learning about a wide-ranging and diverse group of art works, we are also maintaining some valuable social contact, which is important in these difficult times. We try to engage members who are unable to Zoom by sending them by email information about the artworks covered in the meeting.
Creating Christmas/Birthday cards from recycled cards & decorations. Meeting on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 10.00am.
A friendly group for self-motivated beginners, who wish to teach themselves to draw using Betty Edwards' book 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain', which we have found a most effective way of developing skills. More advanced members enjoy pursuing their own projects. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursday mornings in Tudeley. Current Situation
A group of interested people meet fortnightly. They include near beginners as well as more competent stitchers, sharing ideas, materials and experience. Very little cost is involved. We meet on alternate Thursday mornings in Tonbridge.
We enjoy learning more about arts and crafts, in an informal way, through our many and varied visits. When convenient we use public transport, with details in the Diary. We meet on the 1st Friday of the month. New members always welcome.
The object of the Group is to enjoy the company of like-minded people, learn from each other and swap ideas. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month.
Beginners work on a year-long project making a sampler quilt, sewn either by hand or machine. More experienced quilters work in groups or on their own projects. Group 1 meets on the 1st Tuesday of the month from 10.00am in Weald. Group 2 meets fortnightly on Tuesday afternoons in Weald or Tonbridge.
The group aims to investigate a wide range of related subjects with talks, discussions, practical workshops, demonstrations and visits etc. This group meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 2.00pm, Current Situation The Group have been able to successfully meet on Zoom keeping our usual meeting times i.e. monthly on the second Wednesday of the month at 2pm. Generally the numbers are down on our normal, but we still have up to 7 members attending on Zoom. We are have been able to modify our programme, but still have talks and between meetings we set a subject to be photographed or made into a mini video film. This enables us to have viewings at the next meeting of some photographs and some video from members. Members who are not able to be present may forward Photos/videos for viewing by those attending. Not everyone is able to be on Zoom so notes are provided to keep everyone up to date with what is happening. If other members of U3A are interested we would be happy for them to be included in our meetings.
