What is the U3A

  • Third Age means retirement – but not only
  • For anyone not in full time employment
  • A self-help organisation, run by unpaid members
  • 999 U3As in the UK
  • More than 380,000 members in UK
  • Part of an international movement
  • Each U3A is independent, not part of a hierarchy
  • U3As are non-profits, usually registered charities

About Tonbridge U3A

  • Nearly 1,200 members from Tonbridge area
  • More than 100 Interest Groups – the life blood the U3A
  • Be more studious or less so – your choice
  • Interest Groups usuually have between10 and 30 people
  • Monthly Meeting all members can attend
  • Monthly Meeting usually has a speaker
  • Tonbridge U3A was launched in 2000
  • Open day on the first Wednesday of September – public can visit and talk to Group Organisers
  • We organise an annual holiday trip
